.4 sky

could there ever be a gap?

i mean, like a place where nothing is,
where there is no, not, none of anything, not even something,
no what,
simply,
nothing?

is such a place possible?

a what
comprising no object,
no substance,
no tangible thingness
to see
or be
that may be
talked about
used
exploited
celebrated
admired
tripped over
bumpped into
lived in the shelter

or in the shadow of.

a what, or,
a when.

a when
when everything else stopped
but the mega-clock kept ticking.
as far as we were all concerned
life's ream continued to roll-
but to the one on the other side of the picture frame
gazing at our universal group portrait
everything was static.

look at the sky.
look at the sky, someone says.
have you ever stopped to think, quite what it is you are looking at, when you look at the sky?
now, I'm not going all sciency on you...what I mean is, surely, 'the sky', the 'thing' you are looking at, or towards, is a highly ambiguous and arguably indefinate article anyway, right? there is no one particular object on which you are fixing your gaze when you 'look at the sky'; is there? you look up, you see blue. (hopefully). but you're just looking through stuff, really. your vision is just racing through a jungle of fragments, searching for something beyond, an end-post upon which to focus itself. there is no 'sky' really, unless it is a collective term, referring to all air (as david crowder says, "did you ever notice that the sky is all the way to the ground?" - a conversation). you're looking at a space. you aren't looking at the sky, because you can't.

you're looking through it.

and so the question that arises, is, through it, to what, exactly? if we've established that the sky is not a what afterall, then what is? what is the end-post?

a what, a when, or,
a who.

a who
who isn't really there.
who is broken
empty
but full
of gaps.
who has no rights
no opportunities
no status
nor support.
who has no sight
no touch
no sense of the exterior
no skill
or use
or worth.
who is invisible to all
unnecessary to all
who doesn't even need to be ignored
because the choice to do so
is not even there
who is
nothing

space

like sky.

you see through them.

to the real end-post

who fills the gap.
