.28 doublethink

"Stupidity is as necessary as intelligence, and as difficult to attain".

(George Orwell, 1984)

it's the ganme of two minds.

one is the reality,
the other,

our blind truth.

(so it would seem).

the delusionary language we use
that institutionalises blatant falsehoods.
like calling poorer countries
developing
and the richer ones
developed.

get a grip,
it's the other way round you ignorant imperialistic egotist.

the only 'developing'
that's going on round here is in the West,
the verb holds true there;
the stagnant noun belongs to the
motionless basket cases
where it don't matter what you call us-
we're screwed.

and what is it about defining everything around us by our own standards,
why don't we even call cities and countries by the names of their own language?
the middle east?
as the prince of jordan once put it, "to the chinese,
we're the middle west".

blind truth.

and why is it
some people think they have no accent?
that is,
everyone around you speaks different
- but no, you're the one totally normal one.

well let me just tell it to you straight -
like it or not -
you have an accent.
trust me.
there ain't nobody who is 'neutral',
and personally i don't know why anyone would want to be either.

so this is why i was so confused when i recently came across the international house offering 'accent-reduction classes'.

'accent-reduction'?

are you kidding me?

you cannot reduce an accent,
you can merely change it.
(someone should let these americans know).

and maybe it's just as simple as
when you're severely pissed off with somebody,
and you just pretend you're not.

blind truth.

and sometimes,
i reckon thinking once is hard enough.
