currently listening to
black and white,
mj
this message is about the gray.
i've only just realized
that the gray is crucial to acknowledge,
and in fact there's a lot more gray than anything else, really.
so much is painted in conceptual dichotomies,
light dark
lost found
blind see
saved unsaved
et cetera...
and along with them
come the embedded implicit superiorities,
one over the other,
and along with that
comes the labels
and the chauvinism
innocent,
stinging.
the joke is
that such thinking is
(in this life?)
in most ways a fallacy.
we, and our analyses
can only be regarded through many lenses,
a scale, even,
interconnected relational bonds,
gradient(ed).
there is so much deeper
than black and white.
there are all of the grays, too.
i'm not arguing that the polars are not there
but i think there's a lot of stuff
or place
between them to occupy
and its hard
(impossible?
unnecessary?
arrogant?
beyond us?)
to draw a line.
so,
on the one hand
i'm told that i'm free
yet i still live a life of 'sin'
and so what then?
am i just on the same journey
same struggle,
same jihad
as everybody else?
or at least,
there's no sinner versus sinless, right?
or,
what is love's polar opposite?
i guess many would name hate.
but beyond this,
aren't there mixtures?
or greater love,
lesser love?
by which i don't mean to initiate competition,
but simply that
you couldn't fairly take a life and
bracket it
(send it,
judge it),
in permanence
in one circle
or the other.
can't we move beyond
the dualistic narrow
and in the uncompleted yet-to-be-resolved mix
find security,
peace
or a gray that gets to close to it, at least.
