.73 burning

currently listening to
libera me - requiem
fauré

habit
like a flaming candle
gripping in my palms
steadily wax burns my skin
with fierce stinging
drips

a desire:
let go

but the grip has found its home in my hands
the fingers, once freed
now wake to find themselves confined closed
in masochistic comfort
or is it just the stupor of lethargy

a desire:
let go

heat surging
melting further
white
hot
wax
now streaming down over my wrists
the odor of singed hair
mingles with smoke's smugness
as a serpent
as new crevices
sear into the once delicate
smooth porcelain skein
of child's innocence.

a desire:
let go

split mind debating
like gollum and paul
rages, boils over
something has to crack.
leave it 18-22 minutes
the packaging said
no more, i cry
more i cry
just a little longer
i can stand the burning?

a desire:
let go

release
i thought
yet it begins to dawn
that the clasped inferno persists
smalled, hidden
but impossible to extinguish
like scotts weed
an apparition
a memory
the thought commands fear, still
as the body misses an old friend.
