.30 redress

currently listening to:
redemption song,

bob marley

redress.

and the problem is this-
a turn of phrase;
misleading,
incorrect
and unfounded

and it really does my head in.

"to lose your virginity".

now,
there are many things i have done.
and many things i haven't.

but over the years
people have certainly 'stolen'
my haircut virginity,
my falling-in-love virginity,
and even (as they rightly pointed out at the time),
my facebook wall virginity.

similarly neither am i
a sushi virgin,
nor an surfer virgin,
nor a climb-inside-a-washing-machine virgin

...and yet, i personally don't feel like i've
lost
anything.

so why, when it happens,
whatever the circumstances,
do you want to call me a loser?

but moreover,
i hate to think
that this counts as something
that once it's happened,
it's happened,
and you can never ever retrieve it.

why should that be?
why is it not possible to go back?

i mean, obviously in literal terms
in the absence of the tardis
it is,
bare and naked history,
however to me that shouldn't discount you
as bare and naked used goods.

the concept isn't even biblical.

'lose',
why lose?
lose, lost, eternally loser.

how about 'give'?
instead, we can say that you
give
yourself away, right?

and if you give yourself away once,
surely,
(unless you suddenly cease to exist)
you can give yourself away again?

now arguably,
some would say that to do this multiple times
with multiple people
isn't all that cool;
but to me seeing it as giving
(to those who you feel deserve it)
makes more sense
than loss,
at least.

i promise you,
you haven't lost anything for good.

you've merely taken it out
and unwrapped it to see,
(prematurely? that's one's own opinion),

and maybe it's waiting to be redressed.

and then maybe it's waiting to be given,
again.
